The Currency play will premiere at this year’s Maitisong Festival next week Friday in Gaborone. The play director Lionel Nkosi who produced it in the second city of Francistown, noted that the play was appreciated by the residents of Ghetto, and it was only a matter of time before the play could be exported outside Francistown. The play is a concerted efforts by two award winning local actors Thembani Mpapho and Kwenze Poelo Nguni.

The Currency is an one-hour long corporate theatre play that captures some of the world’s most troubling issues surrounding financial literacy, financial management, debt management and economic welfare. “The play intends to sensitize the audience on escaping financial crises by demonstrating basic skills that wealthy and successful people use to ensure financial success,” Nkosi noted. Nkosi revealed that the choice of the two main actors was done based on the fact that both actors are national award winning actors who have won numerous awards in local circles of action.

Mpapho is currently the reigning Botswana Champion having accumulated an impressive two national awards in the 2017 President Days Celebration awards under best actor category. Nguni has represented Botswana in an international festival in Zambia where he scooped the best actor award as well as the best actor during last year’s Northern Arts Awards (NAA). Nkosi cried out to the people of Gaborone to flock the halls where it will be premiering looking at the fact that the theatre industry has over the past years lost its touch and support other than through constituency level and Presidential Initiative. Nkosi added that they could revive the essence of this universal language through the support of the people of Francistown. “This is also a follow up to the President’s initiative where we have felt that it is of paramount for us to carry the legacy forward by promoting the talents that have been unearthed through presidential competitions,” he added.
