The annual Lobatse Beef Festival (LBF) is slated for June. While the winter season in the laidback town is known to be extremely cold, the party is anticipated to bring a bit of warmth and a celebratory mood. Since its inception, several years ago, the meat festival has lured many to the first town of Botswana and helped turn around its ‘ghost town’ image. The unique concept was initially spearheaded to create an event that celebrates the small town’s history and revives its social culture by celebrating the rich heritage of beef that it boasts.

The vibe-filled event also boosts business relations and community spirit. According to the events’ managing director Barolong Seboni, this year, the event is expected to be bigger and better, but still maintaining the essence of the event. “We will create a one-stop picnic for families and friends to unwind while sampling a variety of beef dishes on offer on the day. This event is good for family, friends and colleagues to relax while basking in the town’s significantly rich heritage.” A press release from the organisers states that stalls are already on sale and that revelers can brace themselves for a weekend of good food, music, laughter and dance at the Town Park, the event’s mainstay venue. Since it started, LBF has brought pride and honour to residents of Lobatse, known as Bandleng, and home to one of Botswana’s most notorious townships, Peleng. LBF is one of the national events on the Botswana Tourism social calendar.
