Author: Maya Angelou

This literary masterpiece is an autobiography about the renowned writer’s early years. She chronicles her days from being a toddler to the time she has a child out of wedlock and has to grow up quickly. She also touches on issues such as racial segregation, sexual abuse and dealing with identity issues like struggling with an ‘ugly girl’ complex. Her experiences are both painful as they are joyous and she leaves no stone unturned in sharing her experiences and breathing life into them. The narration of her experiences are both innocent but also discerning and she sheds light into utmost personal issues and expresses her childhood perception easily. Her writing is magical and engaging, to the point that it is difficult to put it down. A read that deserves a place on every bookshelf.
