Local traditional music songbird Rejoice Gaonakala, popularly known as Jojo, will embarked on a campaign to be the first Motswana artist to sell 100 000 copies which is the platinum status. No local artist has reached that level of record sales. This initiative forms part of the marketing for Jojo’s latest album Bo Rra Setori, which comes on the heels of her first offering titled Mpatiseng.

According to her manager Gilbert ‘PP’ Seagile, the artist took two full years working on the album in order for her to achieve her goal of reaching a platinum status through #operationhelpjojo4platinum campaign. “Before her album can be released in the local market, her number one fan President of the Republic of Botswana Ian Khama will unveil the campaign by parting ways with P2, 500 for a copy of her album as one way of initiating the national campaign.

As we speak negotiations are still ongoing at the State House where we have dropped our proposal for the President to make a consideration and as far as we are concerned there won’t be any hiccups since the President highly appreciates Jojo’s music,” he said. PP further said that when the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) celebrated their 50th anniversary in Selibe Phikwe last year, Khama personally invited Jojo to the event.

“He really likes her music and appreciates her talent. He will definitely support the campaign as he also supports the local arts,” he said. The promoter also said that platinum status in record sales is something local artists normally sniff from across the South African borders due to their high sales in records as shown by then platinum status reached by artists including the late Brenda Fassie and many others who came after her.

The campaign date of resumption is scheduled for the 2nd of September 2017 in Gaborone Block 8 Lagos night club and will move to Francistown on the 3rd at Lagos night club in Ntshe, where the local media will also be invited to grace the occasion. The Mmadinare born Jojo has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the music industry and has earned herself many fans over the years.

She has performed in South Africa, Malawi, Lesotho, Nambia, Zimbabwe and even overseas. The energetic Jojo, who is always a marvel to watch performing on stage, was quiet for a while in recent years when she was going through challenges with her craft but has now risen from the ashes and even rekindled her working romance with PP, after the two parted ways amidst endless controversies ranging from mistrust and romance intefering with work. Jojo tried to go at it alone but did not manage. In a previous interview, she told Vibe that she had time to think things through and realised that she needs PP to help her grow her career. She is now back and seems set to continue her musical glory.
