Officials at Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Annual General Meeting have hailed Botswana as one of the best countries to host youth sports events in the continent. Speaking during the AGM held in Gaborone this past week, CUCSA President Ben Naobeb said Botswana is considered a safe African country to host different sporting events involving development athletes. Speaking at the CUCSA Annual General Meeting in Gaborone last week, Naobeb said Botswana provides a hospitable environment for athletes during international sporting events.

“Although Botswana like other African countries is faced with recovery from the recent economic meltdown, the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) is doing a commendable job to ensure that all sporting events are conducted well and without any troubles,” he said. According to Naobeb, CUCSA is pleased with the state of sporting facilities, he singled out the University of Botswana Indoor Sports Centre as a world-class facility. “We at CUCSA are hopeful to find the facilities in the same condition when we come back in June.”

“I will call on to CUCSA members to give full support to Botswana to fulfil the promise of hosting successful event in Botswana once more.” For his part, Assistant minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology Fedilis Molao said he appreciated the support that the sporting fraternity in the country is receiving from the private sector and also through individuals who continue to make hosting sporting events successful.

“Hosting successful CUCSA games will boost the country’s sports hosting resume and it is my hope that everything possible will be made to ensure that the games are a success,” said Molao. “`It is well known that sports is used to prevent health problems, it is also a very important tool in economic building through hosting successful events,” Molao explained. For his part, Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) patron, Kgosi Puso Gaborone said that the opportunity to host CUCSA continues to allow the country an opportunity to showcase various talents including games administration and organising.
