The Botswana National Sports Commission’s (BNSC) athlete village located in Gaborone is said to be in a sorry state. The complex, which is used to house athletes in camp for national team assignments is said to be in need of serious maintenance work. This was revealed during the recent Sports Pitso held in Palapye, this past weekend. When presenting on national sports association issues, Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) president Tshepo Bathai said the complex is experiencing a litany of maintenance issues including plumbing as water often spills all over the complex floor. “Fire extinguishers have been expired since 2015. The furniture is old and some doors have been unhinged.

The television sets in the complex are too old,” Bathai said. Addressing sports stakeholders including the minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Thapelo Olopeng and his Permanent Secretary Kago Ramokate, Bathai said even the kitchen facilities in the complex are an eyesore as they are in a dilapidating state. “The toilets are not in a working condition, the window blinds need to be replaced while the curtains are dirty.” Bathai was representing other concerned affiliates from the BNSC.
