Fallen professional boxer Herbert Nkabiti who tragically died following a doomed boxing match against Willis Baloyi in South Africa this past weekend,  had dedicated the fight to his four-month old baby.

Speaking to the Sun Sports following Nkabiti’s death, Thembani Kuchwe, who was Nkabiti’s personal secretary, said of the tragedy. “Francistown youths have lost a friend and a motivator as the late boxer presented them with hope.” He added that Nkabiti was the chairman for the youth ambassador of Francistown under the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture.

“Through this position, he mingled with a lot of youths and helped them achieve their goals in various aspects of life.”
He said that before the boxer left, he promised to win his bout to honour his infant child whose mother has been a pillar of Nkabiti’s life during his boxing career.

Kuchwe said that Nkabiti called him for the last time late last month inquiring about progress in sourcing sponsorships for his Hernker Investments boxing academy. “On Saturday moring, I was surprised to receive a message from a friend through Facebook asking me if indeed it was true that Nkabiti had died in South Africa following a boxing match.

“Following the message, I then made calls and I was shocked to learn of the devastating news from a South Africa.”  Loveness Moyo who was the treasurer of the Francistown Ambassadors Youth Forum described Nkabiti as a natural leader who was not shy to perform menial jobs during educational conferences.

Moyo said although Nkabiti was the chairman in the organisation, he could still do a job meant for the ushers. Meanwhile, Councillor for Boikhutso ward in Francistown, Themba Mbambo where Nkabiti was VDC Chairperson revealed that Nkabiti was a darling among residents of the ward.

“He was one individual who never used his position when it came to work as he would be seen doing the dirty jobs supposed to be done by his subordinates. He was motivating the youth in the area and I regret to say that we have lost a great hero,” Mbambo said.
