KWF prepares world cup

Two local athletes Tlotlang Theetso and Panakie Thoolebe are all set to represent the country at the 2017 Karatenomich Federation (KWF) World Cup and Conference scheduled for Malta on the 28th September. This week two of the athletes Theetso (U60 kg) and Thoolebe (68kg) said they are ready to take on the world in Malta. Following their impressive performance over the weekend during the Botswana KWF championships held in Gaborone the U18 team athletes said they are aiming to shock their more fancied opponents in the European nation.

Members of National First Division outfit Notwane FC to take over as chairman have reportedly approached former Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego. Reports reaching Sun Sports are that Notwane supporters are unhappy with the current committee chairman Chimidzani Chimidza who recently took over from Arnold Somolekae. Chimidza’s main objective was to lead the club back to the elite league.

Home-schooled protégé dominates local tennis

Local tennis protégé Denzel Seetso is promising to become Botswana’s next professional tennis star. The young player’s mother Martina Seetso is ready to guide her son’s career to the highest levels in the sport. Speaking at the recently held Motor Centre Botswana Junior Open Tournament Championships in Gaborone, the doting parent said she would not rest until her son realises his dream.

BOTESSA team competes in Taiwan

Botswana Tertiary School Sports Association (BOTESSA) is expected to send an 18 strong team to Taiwan for the International University Sports Federation games. The athletes were selected during the recent BOTESSA competitions. The team comprises eight athletes (track and field), two badminton players, two table tennis players and two lawn tennis players.

World Chess President is in town

President of World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsam Ilyumzhinov is expected to arrive in Botswana today (Wednesday). During his stay Illyumizhinov is scheduled to have a closed door meeting with the Minister of Basic Education Unity Dow this afternoon.

Inaugural Dlala cup in Maun

Bank Gaborone has splashed a whopping P 100 000 towards the Bank Gaborone Dlala Cup football tournament scheduled for Maun this weekend. The sponsorship was launched yesterday in Gaborone. The Bank, in collaboration with Uturndipsy Trust, founded by local football legend Diphetogo Selolwane will host a one day football tournament as a way of raising funds for the trust.

Kalavango return from retreat

The 2016 Mascom Volleyball League runners up and 2017 BMW Capital Motors cup reigning champions Kalavango Volleyball Club recently returned from a three day retreat in Durban, South Africa. The trip was meant to boost team spirit, networking and benchmarking. In an interview this week, Kalavango’s newly elected Chairman Chopdat Gaetshajwe said all their targets have been met.

Galaxy sign Molefhe

Former Mochudi Centre Chiefs winger Ayanda Molefhe is certain that he has found greener pastures at his new team Jwaneng Galaxy FC. The speedy winger recently completed his move to the 2016/17 Premier league runners up where he joins former Chiefs coach Mike ‘Dubula’ Sithole. Molefhe who has already spent the last four weeks in Jwaneng, said there is no doubt that he made the right decision in joining Galaxy.

Botswana to host Diamond league

Sports View runners club chairperson Glody Dube this week announced an ambitious plan to bring the cosmopolitan Diamond League track and field showpiece to local shores. Dube was speaking during the launch of the 2018 Gaborone International Meet (GIM), Local Organising Committee (LOC) launch in Gaborone yesterday (Tuesday).

Chetelo misses nwyc

An ankle injury robbed local Netball Umpire Abednico Chetelo an opportunity to officiate at the just ended Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) games recently held in Gaborone. Speaking to Sun Sports recently, Chetelo said he sustained the injury a few days before the international showpiece began.

Maloka wins Table Tennis Championship

Moshupa Spinners Club’s Bokang Maloka has emerged the New Horizon Table Tennis Open Men’s single champion this past weekend. Maloka beat his longtime rival Bonolo Mabote in the highly contested senior men’s category after winning the game 3-0.In an interview this week, Maloka explained how he has managed to stop Mabote’s grip of the champion.” I was well prepared for this game I knew I was going to face him in the tournament, so I was prepared for everything he will bring to me,” he said.

TAFIC wrangle with star player

The recently promoted BTC premiership outfit TAFIC are involved in a heated conflict with their talented attacker Tebogo Mathumo. The up and coming player was recently called to the Zebras camp by former headcoach Peter Butler. This week, sources close to Tafic said Mathumo made his intentions clear that he was going to pursue his studies in Gaborone. Sources who prefer anonymity said it did not go down well with some in TAFIC management hence.

BNSC, BMS split over MoXAn

The Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) will not be lending financial support to the 2017 Motocross of African Nations (MoXAN) scheduled for next month in MmaMashia village.
