Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Secretary General Mpho Balopi has revealed to The Midweek Sun that the passing away of party veteran Gaotlhaetse Utlwang Matlhabaphiri is not only a loss to the nation but a stumbling block to the current BDP PEEC voter registration process.

Matlhabaphiri was the Chairman for the party’s Political Education Elections Committee (PEEC). Balopi added that instead of continuing with PEEC related matters, they will suspend them this week until the veteran politician is buried at the weekend.

Matlhabaphiri who passed away last week leaves behind an incoming basket with a lot of complaints from various BDP regions concerning the looming Bulela Ditswe primary elections slated for August this year.

He has served the government in many portfolios having been a minister, an assistant minister and Botswana’s Ambassador to Namibia.  Among complaints in PEEC incoming basket are those from Francistown West and Francistown East constituencies where 5000 voters disappeared from the primary elections voters’roll of the latter.
