Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) Secretary General, Gilbert Mangole says the opposition coalition will lose 2019 general elections because of petty politics.

Mangole indicated that Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) is capable of unseating the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) but due to petty politics this will not be realised. Mangole who was speaking during a BMD consultative forum in Mogoditshane over the weekend said the BMD is prepared to deliver all the 13 constituencies under its management.

According to Mangole, as one of the UDC contracting partners, BMD has been vilified from many ends. He said ever since its split last year BMD has been under attack from fellow comrades. “Evidence is on the ground and seen by everyone, we are under attack. We are called names and a tagline ‘sekgapha’ has been given to the BMD.

People fail to appreciate that BMD has contributed to what UDC has become. We played a pivotal role in the build-up and in the 2014 general election. I speak from authority that all this talk that BMD is dead is all lies,” stated Mangole. Mangole who is also Member of Parliament for Mochudi West said it is time for their colleagues to give the BMD the accolades it deserves.

The outspoken legislator revealed that BMD has participated without fail in all the bye-elections especially during house to house campaigns. He said people just hate BMD President Advocate Sidney Pilane for nothing. The Secretary General said no one has come forward to explain what the BMD president has done to deserve such hatred from people even within the UDC. “Our president has contributed to the UDC even financially.

Even during the Goodhope-Mabule Constituency where the UDC was represented by our colleagues from Botswana National Front Advocate Pilane contributed towards the campaign financially to ensure that UDC wins the constituency. What is surprising is that people still have this imaginary belief that he is here to destroy the people’s project. How does he destroy it when he contributes towards it growth?”, wondered Mangole.
