Botswana Congress Party (BCP) President Dumelang Saleshando is unfazed by recent utterances by Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Maun West candidate Reaboka Mbulawa that he is prepared to use more than P3million to grab the constituency from the opposition for Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Mbulawa was beaten by Batawana paramount Kgosi Tawana Moremi who garnered 7271 votes against Mbulawa’s 5335 in the 2014 general election.

Mbulawa has since rubbished such a claim as he insisted that the issue of his campaign budget is out of bounds for the public especially a member of the opposition party. However, he said he does not develop goose bumps when the name Saleshando is mentioned since he regards him as one of the visitors who flies to Maun from Gaborone only to take yet another flight in the evenings. In fact he says he has faced an even sterner challenge in paramount chief Tawana against whom he posted a brave fight during the 2014 general election, something he feels shows the lesser powerful mortal in Saleshando was even more beatable.

A councillor for Kubung/Kgosing ward in Maun Galaletsang Mhapha had informed his UDC welcome rally recently that following the announcement that Saleshando will be pitted against Mbulawa, the former North West Chairperson allegedly freaked out and started telling those close to him that he is even prepared to splash over P3million in order to grab the constituency from the UDC. Mhapha defected from the BDP last year to join the BCP hence his welcome rally where he made the utterances recently.

Saleshando laughed off the election budget by Mbulawa as very small for BDP whom he and others before Mbulawa have beaten. “I have once beaten a BDP candidate with more money than Mbulawa and I will not be intimidated by an under budget of P3million but will focus on my campaign trails in the constituency forming part of the village I originate from. Although I was born in Kanye, I remain a bona fide resident of Maun,” Saleshando said.
