Both Bobonong and Tonota police station commanders have revealed that they are fully aware and prepared to tackle any acts of violence and hooliganism during the national elective congresses for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) which is billed for Tonota and the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) slated for Bobonong village during the president’s holidays.

Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse of Tonota police station revealed that his office is aware that BDP members, including the country’s president, will descend in the village this weekend. He warned those who will get involved in unlawful acts to desist from doing so as the law will take its course. “We are ready to monitor the situation during the BDP elective congress since we have been well informed in time that Bagolo batlaa bo bale kwano. People who will be coming to the village are advised to take care of their property whilst in Tonota.

Laptops and expensive cellular phones should not be left inside locked cars as this will attract petty thieves to break into their parked cars hence we advise them to always leave behind one person to be on the lookout for petty thieves. We won’t condone any acts of violence at all as it is illegal and against the Penal Code to do so,” Badumetse said. Meanwhile Superintendent Paul Seoko of Bobonong Police Station was in the dark about the planned BMD Congress that will be held in his backyard at Matshekge Senior Secondary School.

As at press time, the police were yet to be formally informed of the Congress, but Seoko pointed out that as the police, they are always ready for any eventualities and they will put everything under control in the event of illegal acts. “I am very grateful that your paper has informed me about the looming congress and this will assist us in our preparations to protect thousands of citizens including their property. Those who will not act according to the penal code will suffer the wrath of the law
