Stanbic Bank Botswana, in partnership with Diacore Gaborone Marathon has yesterday donated a total sum of P116 000.00 to The African Women Leadership Academy (TAWLA). When receiving the cheque at Stanbic Bank Head office, Director and Founder of TAWLA Dr Mpho Gilika said that the gift came at an opportune time when her organisation is trying hard to develop youth of Botswana.

“Thank you Stanbic Bank and Diacore Marathon for choosing us as the recipient of the moment. You selected us at a right time when we find it necessary to develop the youth, empower them and instil leadership skills as well as networking.” Said Dr Gilika.

She said that the money would be used for life and leadership skills training for 35 students from different seven Senior schools in Gaborone, and 100 students in two Junior schools in Gabane. She further highlighted that they have now included the boy child in the TAWLA program since they have noticed that they also face challenges in life just like a girl child.

“HIV/AIDS, rape and incest are still a challenge to the young people of this country,” she said adding that not only young women are abused but young boys also face the same scourge. She thus said that it is their responsibility as TAWLA young men and women about such issues and how to deal with them.

Gilika added that the selected form four students from senior school would later on have special mentors to guide them through the tertiary education level path. She added that those in Ramotswa would have an intergenerational platform aimed at encouraging students and parents to openly talk about certain issues. Dr Gilika said that there would be specialists in place to lead such platforms.
